The Black Rock Coalition was established in 1985 by guitarist Vernon Reid, journalist Greg Tate, and producer Konda Mason. The organization emerged as a response to restrictions that the commercial music industry imposed on Black artists.
The BRC stands among a select group of national nonprofit organizations committed to preserving complete creative freedom for Black outsider musicians. For four decades, we have championed artists who refuse to be confined by industry expectations.
